Lori Hawkins has lived in Wisconsin her entire life. She earned her bachelors’ and masters’ degrees in education at UW-Milwaukee. Formerly with Milwaukee Public Schools, she and her family moved to Kenosha County in 2006. Ms. Hawkins first became politically active during the effort to recall Gov. Scott Walker and the Act 10 protests in Madison, WI. However, it was the 2016 Presidential Election that spurred her to make progressive activism a daily call to duty. She and her husband Rob founded Left of the I, an Indivisible Group, in January 2017.
A 2017 graduate of the EMERGE America program, Lori will continue to explore where her progressive values lead her. Volunteering as a Planned Parenthood activist, working toward a clean Dream Act for DACA recipients, and speaking out for the area’s homeless as a CUSH Core Group Leader are her key passions. What motivates her action is the desire for her children to live in a society that values the lives of all its inhabitants as well as our natural resources.
