Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Detention

July 12, 2019

July 12th

Kenosha Detention Center

“GIVE ME YOUR TIRED, YOUR POOR, YOUR HUDDLED MASSES YEARNING TO BREATHE FREE.”

- Emma Lazarus, as inscribed on the Statue of Liberty

*Please bring a candle!*

Doctors, lawyers, public health officials, civil rights experts, reporters and detention center guards are sharing horrifying first-hand accounts of what is happening to people—to children—we have detained.

We have administration officials on video telling incredulous judges that children in overcrowded detention centers do not need access to showers, beds, soap, toothbrushes, or blankets.

We have reports of thousands of immigrant children being sexually abused in detention centers, some of them by staff members themselves.

We have innocent children dying in our custody.

On July 12, a mass gathering will take place at detention centers around the country, in addition to local communities, to shed a literal light on the inhumane conditions being faced by asylum seekers and undocumented immigrants in the U.S.

"We shine a light on the inhumane treatment of migrants and refugees by the current administration. To be silent is to be complicit. To sit this out is to be complacent. Now is a time to stand for what is best in all of us, to stop the worst of us. We must stand for one another."

PROTEST OPPOSING TRUMP'S MOVE TO STIFLE THE MUELLER INVESTIGATION. Earlier today, Donald Trump installed a crony to oversee special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, crossing a red line. By replacing Rod Rosenstein with just-named Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker as Mueller's boss overseeing the investigation, Trump has undercut the independence of the investigation. Whitaker has publicly outlined strategies to stifle the investigation and cannot be allowed to remain in charge of it. RSVP to let the event host know that they can count on you to attend the event. Coordinated Campaign Orientation

October 07, 2018

If we want change, you have to WORK for it!
Come be part of a team, make new friends and work in your own neighborhood to get the word out on candidates who will fight for what you believe in.

If you are unhappy with our government-on a state and national level-NOW is the time to get involved and make a difference.
Candidates running to make change NEED YOUR HELP.

The Coordinated Campaign is a neighborhood by neighborhood effort organized by the Democratic Party to get the word out on the candidates running in your district. This coordinated effort means you can maximize your impact by sharing information about a number of candidates simultaneously, right in your own neighborhood.

Please come to this orientation meeting to learn more and find out what you can do to make a difference in the last month before the election. Candidates in our area need your help in order to make the kind of positive changes we are working for.
