Paul Ryan Invited to Town Hall Hosted by His Constituents
KENOSHA, 2/17/2017 – Paul Ryan’s constituents want to be heard and Paul Ryan isn’t listening. Residents of Wisconsin’s First Congressional District have been calling, emailing, writing letters and visiting Paul Ryan’s offices daily asking him to meet with them and discuss their concerns. Ryan hasn’t responded, but continues to visit popular TV news programs and attend out-of-state fundraisers. In fact, he has scheduled a trip to Texas with other Republican lawmakers instead of spending time in the district during the upcoming congressional February recess.
The longer Ryan remains silent – the louder the calls for a town hall have grown. In response to constituents’ demands, Forward Kenosha will be hosting a town hall and has invited Paul Ryan to join them on February 26, 2017 at 6 – 7:30 pm. The town hall will provide residents of Wisconsin Congressional District 1 with the opportunity to voice their concerns. If Ryan chooses not to attend, the comments will be captured and sent to Ryan by Forward Kenosha.
“Remaining silent and staying away from our district isn’t acceptable. We hear from constituents every day that they are very concerned with the direction of our country and want to hear from our congressman. He isn’t listening,” says Gina Walkington, Forward Kenosha board and founding member. “Our government is of the people, by the people, for the people and our representatives should be meeting with us, listening to us and helping us understand what is happening in Washington D.C.,” adds Charlie Breit, Forward Kenosha board member.
The focus on the town hall is to provide Ryan’s constituents a forum to express their concerns, share their stories and come together to learn about other resident’s perspectives. “The goal is to have a respectful and peaceful gathering – where we can start a dialogue. We can’t force Paul Ryan to come, but we can do our best to show him that we have concerns and remind him it’s his duty to address them,” says Jodi Muerhoff, Forward Kenosha board and founding member. “We believe it’s important to provide this forum and do our best to show Paul Ryan that he can and should come and meet with us,” adds Julia Kozel, Forward Kenosha board and founding member.
The town hall will take place at 3615 Washington Road in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The event will have limited capacity.
