CAST YOUR VOTE >> Help hold corporate power accountable by choosing this year’s inductees into the Corporate Hall of Shame!
Every year, our friends at Corporate Accountability International ask activists to vote for the Corporate Hall of Shame. They’ve just released this year’s nominees.
The “winners” of the election will be the focus of grassroots actions and directed media attention all year. The billionaires and corporations that spend big to influence our government hate public scrutiny, so this is a perfect chance to expose how their manipulation threatens our democracy.
Here are some of the companies we're thinking of voting for:
Koch Industries: This year, the Koch brothers and their network of millionaires and billionaires plan to spend a record $400 million to influence election outcomes -- and will continue to impact public policy through secretive nonprofits that do not have to disclose their donors.
GEO Group: The nation's second largest private prison operator, GEO Group uses its profits to lobby for more “tough-on-crime” laws -- that help its bottom line through the mass incarceration of people of color and immigrants. (You can read our report on how mass incarceration is a democracy issue at democracybehindbars.org.)
Beretta: Beretta makes huge profits from manufacturing and selling firearms -- then funds the NRA and its lobbyists to obstruct gun safety legislation.
These and other nominees have repeatedly used their wealth and influence to manipulate our public policy and subvert the will of the public for financial gain -- and we should not tolerate it any longer.
