The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy -- but today, voter purges, gerrymandering, and other voter suppression tactics are putting that right in jeopardy.
Now, we can fight back. We must demand that Congress make our elections more inclusive, accurate, and secure. It's time to show our elected officials that the American people are engaged on this issue and ready for a democracy where every eligible voter can be heard.
Ever since the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act in 2013, we’ve seen escalating attacks on our access to the ballot box.
Just last month, the local board of elections threatened to close over 75% of polling places in a predominantly Black county in Georgia -- only backing down after a nationwide outcry (including by some Common Cause members like you!) Earlier in the summer, the Supreme Court gave Ohio the green light to purge eligible voters from the rolls in Husted v. A. Philip Randolph Institute. And gerrymandered districts in states like North Carolina, Maryland, and Wisconsin continue to silence voters in each and every election.
These threats are serious and jeopardize the right to vote for everyday Americans. But we know that change happens when people speak up -- which is why we must let Congress know that it’s time to take a stand for voters nationwide.
Our elected officials work for us -- and should defend the right of every eligible voter to cast a ballot. Sign the petition to support voters’ rights!
